Geekery!

I had to look up the meaning of ‘Geek’ before deciding to label this post. Although many might differ and say that the dictionary meaning is a person who is socially inept or the likes, but the other one (the more commonly used one) is someone who knows just too much about something and is borderline obsessed with a subject. In my case, I was looking for a distraction at … Continue reading “Geekery!”

Until The Very End…

Because sometimes in your life, you get swept away by a story.  An idea that doesn’t stop your eyes from glinting, even as you grow up.  Come every 31st day of the month of July – I am reminded even more of the magic.   J.K. Rowling rightly said that some stories stay with us forever.  Until the very end.  Happy Birthday, Harry Potter.

Day 9# A Dance With Dragons

Eddard Stark and the monster novel. Edited with VSCOcam ‘A Dance with Dragons’ is the fifth of seven planned novels in the epic fantasy series – A Song of Ice and Fire by American author George R. R. Martin and the last one to be published till date. Just in case there is any inkling of doubt, we’re talking about the story that is now massively popular as ‘Game of … Continue reading “Day 9# A Dance With Dragons”

Day 4# “Quote, Unquote”

Today is about quotes. As long as I remember, I’ve collected them. In my mind, in the secret diary, pasted on the walls of my closet and most recently, pinning them one of my most favourite boards on Pinterest. Tough job having to pick three of the so many that I love. But here are my top picks: “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you … Continue reading “Day 4# “Quote, Unquote””

Day 2# What do you know. What have you learnt.

This post is supposed to be about something that I know a lot about or am good at. At the cost of shedding the modesty – apart from my job (which I used to be and am, quite excellent at), I have varied interests.  And thanks to Wikipedia and my reading addiction, I happen to learn a lot of things. I’d like this opportunity to talk about one of them, … Continue reading “Day 2# What do you know. What have you learnt.”

That Labyrinth Called Westeros

It is not very often that you come across a story that surprises you after every five pages and at no point in time, can you be ahead of the author. A story that feels so real, you can taste it. There is no dearth of fiction writers who create fables about knights and dragons, treachery and glory. But what is it about G.R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones that has … Continue reading “That Labyrinth Called Westeros”

Turning Pages

Books. I love everything about them.  The mysteries they hold. The satisfying whiff when I hold them close. The anticipation when you have to leave them midway and the gratification in having completed a story.  Reading from Mischief Managed, I thought of listing the ones that top my list and the ten authors who will always be on my auto-buy list. J.K. Rowling. For the pure magic she spins. Except … Continue reading “Turning Pages”

π

Yesterday I turned the last page on the ‘Life of Pi’ and realised that there’s much I wanted to say about it. I had heard of the book when it had become a rage, but I never really got around to reading it. Then I saw the trailer of the Ang Lee directorial, and was intrigued by the story – like I have discussed in a previous post. There was a whole … Continue reading “π”

There & Back Again

The spotlight is on the coolest little film-making capital in the world as the scene is set for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on the coming Wednesday. Take a look at the venue – the Embassy Hotel in Wellington. Anyone well acquainted with Peter Jackson and his films will have absolutely no doubt as to the magic that will be spun. I’ve been following this movie very … Continue reading “There & Back Again”

ফেলুদা

It stuns me to think of the sheer genius of some people.   Everything they touch seem to turn to gold. One such man was Satyajit Ray.   Writer, film-maker, illustrator, educator, critic – he was probably what marked the pinnacle of the Bengali genius and intellect. I have had the good fortune of being exposed to his works since I was a child. Nonsense limericks by his grandfather Upendrakishore … Continue reading “ফেলুদা”
