There & Back Again

The spotlight is on the coolest little film-making capital in the world as the scene is set for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on the coming Wednesday.

Take a look at the venue – the Embassy Hotel in Wellington.
Anyone well acquainted with Peter Jackson and his films will have absolutely no doubt as to the magic that will be spun.
I’ve been following this movie very closely. Given my fascination for J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing and the sheer number of times I have read ‘The Hobbit’, it was impossible not to keep a tab on Peter Jackson’s Facebook  page and the Hobbit Blog religiously and get excited with every passing month leading up to December 2012.

My usual lunch time read

New Zealand has almost been transformed. Have you ever heard of that happening for a movie?

Not just a ‘countdown clock’ in the front of the Embassy Theatre; there is stunning artwork installed throughout the city. Once you recover from seeing the 13-metre Gollum in the main terminal of the Airport, you will come across a company of dwarves marching across the NZ Post, a giant Gandalf overlooking the entertainment district and a building wrapped as the Middle of Middle-earth.

It gives me goose-flesh to watch the trailer; I cannot imagine the excitement for those actually in Wellington.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
I know not when it will release in the Sultanate, and when I will be able to watch it. But the fact that there are two more installments to this epic tale, give me solace.
And that Benedict Cumberbatch voices Smaug. Yes.

  1. I wasn't as excited about this movie, but the fact that the whole of New Zealand is ready to welcome it on the screen with Wellington all set up for it, I suddenly feel the excitement about it.
    I wish I could write like you Priyam… #peacefullybeautiful.

  2. Yes! It's crazy. Everyone's participating. And the reverberations are being felt world over!

You'll probably have the opportunity to see it before I do. Tell me how it was.
